Not recognising CD

Hello,

I have today had a problem whereby my computer is not recognising the cd player/dvd burner. I have gone through a few steps and this message came up.

No device was detected

What steps? Briefly explain.

When you go into the BIOS is the drive listed there?
Under Device Manager in Windows is it listed there?

Have you tried removing the reference in Device manager and rebooting to see if the computer finds it then?

Have you tried reseating the Drive to see that helps?

ADDED: Is it not reading specific disk (types) or not reading any at all?

Hello, My apologies.

It is a desktop PC, I have tried to go into device manager and will attach the screen shot of what I see and a photo of bios, I don’t think it is seeing it in bios? It will not even show the cd/dvd drivce in my computer, it ejects/opens ok, but no reading is taking place nor the computer cannot even see it if that makes sense

Have you tried reseating the Drive to see that helps?

Did this help?

While in the BIOS check to make sure under the setting for the drive it is not Disabled.

Might also try resetting the BIOS to Factory.

Could be that the drive gave out.

Try replacing the Data Cable and see if that helps also change to a different power connection.

If you happen to have a different computer that you can put the drive into does it see the drive and if so does it work there?

While in Device manager select View and then select Show Hidden Devices
Look and see if it shows then.

Well I have shown hidden on the instructions above and will attach the image. I have also reset the bios to factory. I shall check tomorrow and see about checking internally

Don’t have the link in front of me at the moment as I’m on my phone but google ‘upper and lower limits’ and see if that helps.
There is a known and long running issue with CD drives and Windows where it simple forgets it has a CD unit.

Suggest method 5 in the link is the filters @Bruce is referring to. That fixed this issue for me some time back?

Hello all problem solved. I gave the insides a good clean. Took out the cables and reinserted them and bows it’s ok.
