I have an external hard drive connected to a Thermaltake BlacX Duet hard drive dock. My PC used to be able to access the external hard drive regularly. Suddenly the external hard drive isn’t recognized by my PC. There is no errors or anything, its like its not even there, not even hooked up.
How can I get my PC running windows 7 to access my external hard drive?
First you have to determine if it is the docking station on the hard drive with the problem.
Do you have another hard drive to try in the unit to see if that is recognized?
I was using the docking station and same computer in the past, no issues. Now, Both my old PC HD and old Laptop HD don’t show up when inserted into the docking station. I tried a new docking station and same results. I tried a different computer, same results. Switching Dock Station and Computer same results.
It use to be straight forward, plug in the HD and it’d show up on the computer.
I’m wondering if a software update changed a setting in windows 7 and if so, how to correct that?
If all else fails how do I get my data off the external HD?
No access to one.
When I first bought the Dock I simply plugged my ex hard drives in and they showed up on my lap top like a flash drive would.
Now a flash drive will show up on my laptop screen but my 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch will not.
I had a look at the Thermaltake BlacX Duet hard drive dock, it could be a possibility that your laptop is not producing enough (12 volt/or enough power) to run those HDD’s. Since it seems to run via usb.
Have you check to make sure the unit is getting power and that the power cord does not need replaced?
Have you also tried replacing the USB cable?
The unit its self has gone.
You might need to get something like this for use on the laptop Amazon.com
it comes with its own power supply. You can attach 3 different sized hard drives. The disadvantage is that you can only look at one hard drive rather than 2 that your Duet takes.
