    Windows7 Updates

    Slightly confused re. Win7 updates.
When I click on Check for Updates, the selected updates are shown on the right hand side (see attached screenshot)
Any updates shown there I would normally install.
Sometimes to the left of this is shown as indicated in attached screenshot.
Do I install this important update or leave it?
Why wasn’t it shown as a selected update?

    Hello

I heard Win 7 had some security updates coming. So i would say yes to letting them install.

Click on the one and see what it is.
MS has been offering then removing updates because of Blue screen of death issues.

Have a read here: Microsoft apparently reinstates Meltdown/Spectre patches for some AMD processors @ AskWoody

if it fails, and you have an AMD processor you might know why.

Personally, I’m waiting a week or 2 longer before I attempt any of January’s Windows 7 updates. There were too many people with problems.

After first creating a new system restore point you should always install any Important or Recommended updates, Optional ones by discretion, some for example are drivers updates and you don`t want to go installing them unless you are having an issue that the driver update is intended to fix.

          Hi roger.

Personally, I would go ahead and install all the important and recommended updates that Windows Update in Windows 7 is suggesting that you install. Any Windows Update that is in the optional category, I would do some research on first especially if they are driver updates. I would not install any driver updates for any of your hardware from the Windows Update window as driver updates from Windows Update can cause more problems especially if you are not having any issues with your various hardware devices.

If you want to update your hardware drivers, always install them from the manufacturers website and always do a backup in case you need to restore your system.

            Hi Guys,
            Thanks for replies.
When I tried again for updates yesterday, the update in question in the optional category was no longer mentioned??
I installed the updates that were available.

Back in August 2016 plodr in reply to a query ref. updates said:
“Again, I rarely install optional updates. Now that things are bundled, I certainly will never install any optional update bundle.”

Ok, so do you have any other questions regarding Windows Update or would you consider this issue resolved?

                Evan Omo,
I think we can knock this one on the head.
                Thanks to all
