Options are Internet Explorer (two separate options) - responds with “class not registered”, movie maker, paint, photo gallery, windows media center - these 4 open the first frame, then skype is an option… which just opens skype.

Select “choose default program” from the context menu above and then select a program of your choice. When you navigate to the program of your choice, and if you want that choice to remain, select the “always use the selected program to open this kind of file”

…But none of the programs play the gif?
I’ve just installed a gif playing program and did it with that, and that’s working fine.

        Anything else before marking solved?

Okay I just had a crash with Total War: Attila (IE screens turned black, same error message sound as before)… This was during a full 20vs20 battle - including a lot of cavalry, so it’s a generally moderately testing situation. Will test others now to see if the whole issue has… re-surged or if it’s just still happening for highly taxing things.
In the last day all I have done is reinstalled discord, as well as this “GIF viewer” program and Anno 2070
Also recently I’ve had problems with the fan on my GPU being loose and causing a really annoying noise. It isn’t making that noise now, could it be possible that these things are linked?

EDIT: Yes it looks like all games previously affected are broken again, and Christ, the fan has fallen off and the GPU is baking, could this be the reason for these issues? It’s… from a zotac GTX 970
The fan hadn’t been making that noise while I had these problems, and started up more recently as games started working again… If I take it in to be fixed is it likely the game issues will be resolved?

Yes definitely. Don’t consider your issues now to be malware, more corrupted Windows and or choice of software installed. Will move this thread to Windows 7 forum where others may assist.

Alright so my PC’s back from the shop, they replaced the GPU and fixed the issue with the windows key while they were at it. Everything’s working fine now, thanks again for your help
