    VMs Never Work

Whenever I try to run/install VMs on to my computer via VMWare, it always freezes up. Then I go to the Windows 7 task manager on the actual machine and that doesn’t open and I get the blue spinning wheel, so then I have to hit the reset button my computer case. Why does this keep happening? Here’s my computer:

Ok so I read that answer, and I am running my VMs on an SSD… should I move them to my data drive? (actual hard drive).

VMWare installs it’s own device drivers. I don’t see any in your Device Manager. What version of VMWare are you running and what product? Workstation, Player?

Sorry guys, long days at work.

I will install VM Ware Workstation on a HP Windows 7 Pro Notebook at work-if I have the time- and see what it gives me.

I will report back today around 19:00 local time (it is 07:00 now…) or tomorrow.

I have had VM Workstation and my system performance was atrocious.
My computer ran like a dog, and my computer is quite strong.
I couldn’t get rid of VM quick enough.
VM shares all your system resources.
                  That’s my experience.
This computer is running virtually the same hardware as you, Nick.
You can allocate how much of system resources VM is allowed to use.

See on the attachments what my Deice Manager looked after installing VMs.

I think we’re slightly off track here… Remember, I asked why my VMs were always freezing up and @georgeks sent me to a resource on VMWare’s website suggesting that it could be because I’m running my VMs on an SSD or maybe the SATA controller on my motherboard doesn’t agree with VMWare. So, I asked if I should move my VMs to my actual hard drive, but it seems that my post showing a section in the device manager sent us off track. A note that I have is that VMWare did install its own drivers on my computer, including the Ethernet driver and everything.

Sorry Nick, getting older and senility is always looking for a way to sneak in..

Is VMW not installed on the primary (OS) drive?
If not, I’d say give it a try.

Another thing is, I have heard at work of programs misbehaving if an M.2 SSD is the OS drive, or just exists in the system.

Sorry, this is all the information I could get.

VMWare is installed on my OS drive. And it’s SATA3, not M.2. I don’t actually own any M.2 SSDs.

Then the only other things I can think of, is
                            Some other software interfering.
                            Or
You uninstall VMW and reinstall, selecting all options and extras, the do an on-line update.
