Sorry but to be able to help we need information about the actual computer that we have been asked to help with.

Please provide information about your computer, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if a brand name, provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the CPU, MB, the RAM (including the amount) add on video card if one is used and if a desktop the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable folk to better assist you.

Some do not click links for security reason if you wish to include a picture you will need to use the attach files on the bottom left of the text box.

Only two tests that you can do, start the computer in Safe Mode from within Windows, if the line is still there it is hardware related, video cable or the screen itself, next test is connect the computer to an external screen using the HDMI port, if the external screen does not show the same line you have confirmed that it is the notebooks video cable or screen that is at fault.

Sorry to hear that it is a hardware issue but you are welcome in any event (y)

Just to add, the screen looks most likely as the video ribbon tends to show weird colours or straight lines when damaged or the screen will come on and go off when you move the lid if the cable is loose.
