Backing up to the external HDD and clean installing Windows 10 may just fix it but there are no guarantees I`m afraid.

no problem thank you for all your help its weird seems to balance its self out sometimes like attachement
run disk check and it says no errors were found thought it may find something thanks again for taking your time to help much appreciated

The drive could be fine but there is no way of knowing atm but looking at your CPU usage in the same screenshot you can still tell that there is something amiss.

no problem dont want to waste anymore of your time if you have any more ideas of anything to do or that you would do likr purchase new hardrive etc let me know if not all good thanks

Purchasing anything is always a last resort with me so if me, back up, clean install, if all ok nothing lost but if HDD is toast replace the HDD but with no data lost.

Just wanted to post an update thanks for your help have messed about with pc stopping services and editing virtual memory etc also deleted avast and it seems to be 100 percent now only when starting up then drops down to about 20 or so don’t know if that’s how it should be

Just checked my disk usage, after settling down mine goes from 0 to 4/5% with a couple of internet pages open so 20% seems high, the real proof will be should you get any more lock ups.
