"You are using an outdated version of Chrome" scam

Got on my PC today, noticed a tab opened when I opened Chrome. It said that I needed to update chrome, and provided me a link. (Didn’t take a screenshot, prob shouldve). Looked pretty sketchy so I googled it. Said that this is a scam that can be put onto unprotected but innocent programs to try and get you to download a virus. The last thing I’d want on my PC is a virus. As I just previously mentioned, the article I read mentioned that it used unprotected but innocent programs to advertise this message, and the tab’s icon was the same icon as the Magic Actions for Youtube chrome app. Figured this could be what someone/thing used to send me this message. Anyone know what I can do to protect my PC against this?
Also, I haven’t downloaded a single thing on my PC for atleast a week, with the exception of dragging an image from google images to my desktop.

Here’s an image of the icon that the tab used:

    Thanks

      Did you download/update anything?

Addons such as Ublock origin and Web of trust will help.

We need a log from Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) to examine your system.

Please download the FRST 32 bit or FRST 64bit version to suit your operating system. It is important FRST is downloaded to your desktop.

If you are unsure if your operating system is 32 or 64 Bit please go HERE.

Once downloaded right click the FRST desktop icon and select “Run as administrator” from the menu"

If you receive any security warnings, or the User Account Control warning opens at any time whilst using FRST you can safely allow FRST to proceed.
Frst will open with two dialogue boxes, accept the disclaimer.

      [ol]
[li]Accept the default whitelist options,[/li][li]If the additions.txt options box is not checked please select it.[/li][li]Then select “Scan”[/li][/ol]

Frst will take a few minutes to scan your computer, and when finished will produce two log files on your desktop, FRST.txt, and Addition.txt. They will display immediately on the desktop, but can be reopened later as a notepad file.

Please COPY and PASTE the contents of these two files in your next post.
