    Computer Randomly Restarting

    Hey guys,

I have a computer that randomly restarts a few times throughout the day. Sometimes it is being used and sometimes not. I don’t have a bunch of programs running nor anything else unordinary to explain this. I’ve always had Kaspersky or Bitdender running and have used malware bites and super anti spyware to check for viruses every once in a while.

    i7
    3.60GHZ
    16GB RAM

Often times when it does restart the speakers blast a static sound for a half a second.

If I posted in the wrong area or if more information is needed please let me know.

    Thank you for your help!

Let’s do a full workup of your system.
No personal data is published and everything shown is safe.
    1. Download Speccy by Piriform.
In Speccy, click File > Publish Snapshot > Copy to Clipboard > Close.
Paste that link into your post. Is Speccy safe?
    2. Download GetSystemInfo by Kaspersky.
In GSI, click Start. (takes about 10mins)
It makes a ZIP file on your desktop, drag that to their GSI Parser site.
Once analysed, paste the newly created URL into your post.
    3. Download MiniToolBox by Farbar.
In MTB, tick List Installed Programs, click Go then close the program.
A file MTB.txt is created in the same folder, attach that to your post.
    4. No software interrogates the Power Supply Unit so list the make/model.

      Hi Bruce,

Please let me know if too little or too much was posted.

Kaspersky GetSystemInfo (GSI) Parser allows you to check and fix PC compatibility issues between Kaspersky products and other software. Troubleshoot with Kaspersky GSI Parser!

Gotta open up my computer to find the Power Supply make/model. Will post in a moment.

      Thank you!

Some common causes for restarts are dust buildup (therefor heat buildup), badly connected components, software or hardware.

So, take off the side cover and check the chassis air vents for dust, as well as the fan blades.
Also look at the processor heatsink and fan for dust.
Generally, give the insides a good clean with either a soft bristled brush, or better yet, with an air-comporessor or canned air. Also look in the power supply ait vent and blow it out if you can.

Next, take out the memory modules, wipe their boards with a soft brush and also wipe their contact pin and the motherboard slots they came out of. Reseat those components and test the PC.

          As to software, from the results of MTB, I would recommend;
          [ul]
[li]removing all the Acer bloat (abFiles, abPhotos, Acer Care, Acer Config mamanger, Acer Quick access, Acer portal, AOP Framework)[/li][li]remove BitDefender security and VPN (can always be added back later)[/li][li]remove Document Manager, Driver Setup Utility, ExpressVPN, Intel driver & support, Intel Rapid Storage, PeerBlock[/li][/ul]
          From Speccy;
          [ul]
[li]you have BitDefender and Ultra and Kapserpky running - only have one. And as a side note, you don’t need any, the inbuilt Windows Defender is equal to any paid for AV software, has been for many years[/li][li]Acer hasn’t update your mobo BIOS in ages, probably no longer supported, but your is R02-A0 and their latest is R02-B2 - so that would be worth a try[/li][/ul]
EVGA make some good, and some bad, power supplies.
Can you post a shot of the unit, there should be a make/model number like EVGA B5 or something.

If none of that helps, and it may take a few days of running the rig to prove that, either way, then I would try only running it with one of the memory sticks and try each one in another slot. This will test if a memory module, or slot, has gone bad.

            Hi Bruce,

All vents and fan are clean and clear of dust.

I’ll get to the rest of your suggestions and let you know how things are running.

Super appreciate your help. And please let me know if it’s dangerous having all the above logs online and public.

            Thanks again!

I wrote this little explanation about Speccy; https://pchelpforum.net/resources/pe...-snapshot.228/
The same applies to the other logs.
In short, they are completely safe, no information shown can be used against, and is information that can be easily gathered online as it stands, without the logs.
Every forum I have ever been on tends to ask for the same logs.

For example, compare the Speccy report on your PC to the one above that you published, you’ll see all personal data has been removed, like your outward facing WAN IP address. It still shows your internal network IP’s but they are of no use to anyone not on your network. (y)
