    Losing the Faith!

Can anyone assist as Im getting near sticking with Win 7
Have tried and retried to update to Win 10 via the "windows Upgrade site " and also losing hair!!!

It goes through all the motions for about a hour and a half --says Im legal --says computer spec is adequate and then I get a message that 1 update β€œfailed” and Try again
Must now be at least half dozen times and tried the "HELP fixes --but no joy

In a minute I will post the messages I receive as (like the PC twit I am ) forgot to copy and paste!!

    Back soon folks!!

    Hi and welcome to PCHF

Do you have SP1 installed for Windows 7? It’s a prerequisite for Windows 10.

Also, have you tried using the Windows 10 upgrade tool directly? Download Windows 10

      Re 1st Question friend
I would assume (maybe wromgly?) that as its a legit installation and I have auto updates that I would have. Y/N?

2 If so I will try your other suggested fix

      Thanks for assistance

        Hi again,

We only offer support on legit and legal activations of Windows.

Please try the above mentioned and post back the results

Wasnt been facetious pal -just meant that all looked OK and message said all ok to proceed

I can confirm that I only have SP1 and cant find a link to SP 2
so at moment cant try the further solution

Can you advise please, as when I search there seems to be a lot of conflicting evidence and thought if I do auto updates that would have been one ?

          Thanks a lot

            Hi again,

            Try the following:

            [ul]
[li]Disable (preferrably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before attempting the upgrade.[/li][li]Restart a few times and try again.[/li][li]Disable General USB Devices (example - Smart Card Reader).[/li][li]If you are using a SCSI hard disk, make sure you have drivers available for your storage device on a thumdrive and it is connected. During Windows 10 setup, click the Custom Advanced Option and use the Load Driver command to load the appropriate driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and setup still fails, consider switching to a IDE based hard disk.[/li][li]Do a clean boot and try again. If you don’t know how to do a clean boot, you can follow the guide HERE[/li][/ul]

            [ul]
[li]If you are upgrading using the .ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during setup, if you are connected by LAN (Ethernet) or Wi-Fi, disable both and attempt setup again.[/li][li]If you are updating through Windows Update, when the download reaches 100% disconnect from the Internet LAN (Ethernet) or Wi-Fi and proceed with the installation.[/li][li]If that does not work, try using the .ISO file to upgrade if possible.[/li][li]If you have any external devices attached to the machine, disconnect them (example, gaming controllers, USB keys, external hard disc, printers, non-essential devices).[/li][/ul]

If you are installing Windows 10 using Windows Update, try the following:
            1. Press Windows Key + X on the keyboard and then select β€œCommand Prompt (Admin)” from the menu.
            2. Stop the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. To do this, type the following commands at a command prompt. Press the β€œENTER” key after you type each command.

            Code:
              net stop wuauserv
              net stop cryptSvc
              net stop bits
              net stop msiserver
            1. Now rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folder. You can do this by typing the following commands in the Command Prompt. Press the β€œENTER” key after you type each command.

            Code:
               ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

               ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
            1. Now, let’s restart the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. Typethe following commands in the Command Prompt for this. Press the ENTER key after you type each command.

            Code:
              net start wuauserv

              net start cryptSvc

               net start bits

              net start msiserver
            1. Type Exit in the Command Prompt to close it and then restart the computer.
