And if nothing helps from that list of choices in Peterโ€™s link, try creating another user account and log in with that profile and see if it helps.

If you ran Driver Easy, get rid of it.
All those โ€˜freeโ€™ driver update programs are at worst - just a malware delivery method, or best - loads wrong versions of what is really required.
Many a system has been made worse by running these snake-oil programs.

Windows Updates will look after these for you, or manually check yourself once a year or something.

wouldโ€™ve thought obvious my issue might be bit more complex thereโ€™s a lot junk files and broken registry items still running the laptop though

Although cleaning the Registry almost always has no effect, and we are told numerous times not to do so as the potential for things going south is high - I will add, I had an issue once and running a reg cleaner fixed it.
                          Soโ€ฆ horses for course!
But beware - have backups first.

You can get CCleaner by Piriform, which has excellent junk removal and reg cleaning options.
It tries to do a lot of โ€˜phone homeโ€™ and advertising for their other products sort of thing, but they can all be turned off in Settings.
Just be careful when installing to go through the choices and untick what you donโ€™t want.
In the reg cleaning portion, when you list all the things to clean, sort by the Problem column and untick all the ActiceX/COM issues - I have found cleaning these can have the greatest chance of screwing things up.

If you still canโ€™t get the MS Store to work, you can always Reset this PC and choose the Keep my files option.
