    Computer Software Crashing: 0xc0000005

    Hi Everyone,

I’m running a program called Rhino 7 and keep getting a persistent crash at a certain point.

Crash file reports the error as:
0xc0000005; The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.

I’m pretty sure the issue isn’t related to Rhino 7, and is either hardware or windows related.

Has anyone seen this error before and have any potential fixes?

    Thanks
    Liam

    Hello Kawasaki23,

    Can you provide the information as requested below;
    1. Copy any dmp files from C:\Windows\Minidump onto the desktop.
    2. Select all of them, right-click on one, and click on Send To> New Compressed (zipped) Folder.
    3. Upload the zip folder using the Attach button, bottom left of the dialogue input box

Is the computer a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if a brand name, provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the CPU, MB, the RAM ( including the amount and speed ) add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable folk to better help you.

      Hi,

I’ve got no .dmp files from windows, only one from Rhino.

      It’s a custom build.

CPU: intel core i9-13900k 13th Gen
      MB: MSI Z790-P
      RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 64GB (16gbx4 @4000MHz)
      GPU: GeForce RTX 4080
      PSU: Corsair RM1000e

      Thanks

        Hello Kawasaki23,

If you are not getting any Windows BSOD and the problem is 100% with Rhinoceros software you need to open a support ticket with them here

I’ve already been through support with them. Sent them the .DMP file and all system information.

They’re adamant it’s nothing related to their software. I’ve also managed to successfully run the files and process from a different PC.

My PC is freshly built and has always had this issue.

          Thanks

0xc0000005 sounds like a application error. If you open Windows Event Viewer and look in Windows logs > Application log you should find a corresponding log entry.

I’ve just crashed the program and checked through all event log options & nothing…

I can’t get to the bottom of the issue.

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.

                Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options;

List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
                List Installed Programs
                List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

                Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply for us if you will.

I’d be interested to look at that .dmp from the app.

                    Also,
                    Capture Process Monitor Trace
                    1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
                    2. Wait for another crash with Rhino.
                    3. Stop Process Monitor after it crashes. You can do this by clicking the square icon on the toolbar as shown below.

                    4. Select the File menu…Save… and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
                    5. Zip up and provide the link to the LogFile.PML Upload using Dropbox, Google Drive etc if needed.
