    Invalid File Type

A friend sent me an audio file that was recorded with his audio recorder app on his IPhone. He uploaded it to a Google drive but when I downloaded it the file type is just listed as β€œfile”. This didn’t happen for my other friend who did the same thing and her file is listed as M4A which works. I don’t know how to change it or how to fix it, and online converters won’t convert it because they can’t recognize the file type. Please help!

g’day Julie and welcome to the forums.

can he not send you the audio file straight to your phone?
    is yours an iPhone?
have you tried renaming the file to end with .M4A ?
are you downloading the file on your PC?

      Hello Bruce
I tried to rename my file as you suggested and it worked right away! I had no idea that you could do that and it was such a simple fix! Thank you so much for your help, you have saved me a lot of confusion!
