Very slow boot, but gets better while using

    Hi There,
My first time here, and Iโ€™m hoping you can offer some suggestions.

My computer has become extremely slow to boot up, and extremely slow to open programmes or complete tasks. ie. following links, opening a window, closing a window, populating windows etc. The longer the computer is running, the faster it gets, but still never runs optimally.

    Windows is updated

Iโ€™ve done a scan and defragment

    Iโ€™ve run AVG free edition.

    My specs are below.

a couple of quick tests; restart the PC into Safe Mode and see if that helps.
and you could try creating another user profile and logging in under that new account.

otherwise, what does Task Manager say is hogging all the resources?

when was any maintenance done in Windows?
    here is a list to get your started;
    โ€ข reboot modem/router/pc
    โ€ข delete restore points
    โ€ข turn off hibernation
    โ€ข empty web browser cache
    โ€ข delete system temp files
โ€ข scan Windows for system corruption
โ€ข scan drive for file corruption
    โ€ข disable unwanted scheduled tasks
    โ€ข disable unnecessary startup services
    โ€ข disable scheduled defragging
    โ€ข trim any SSDโ€™s
โ€ข turn off Timeline and Activity History, and all things Microsoft Telemetry based
    โ€ข empty recycle bin
โ€ข delete log files and error reports
โ€ข remove old Windows Updates files
โ€ข cleanup software installer and distribution caches
    โ€ข delete unwanted programs
    โ€ข remove any browser extensions
โ€ข if connecting via wireless, try ethernet
โ€ข pause any online cloud storage synchronising (OneDrive, DropBox)

CCleaner or Glary Disk Cleaner or the inbuilt cleanmgr command can do most of those points.
ShutUp10 by O&O Software can stop a lot of telemetry items.
