Can't Change Win 10 Start up sounds

    Hi
I’ve got Win10 Pro but I cannot change the windows start up sound. Could in win 7.
Tried all the usual settings and even tried changing the Registry to allow the “start up” to show in the > Sounds > sounds tab > Program Events list (it wasn’t showing). But only shows “Log on” not start up. I was told that win 10 would only play Wave files less than 6Mb but that never worked.
Then, that if fast start up was enabled that might stop the change. BUT in Power Settings, there is only Sleep and Lock available not the Hybernate and Turn on Fast Start Up options.
    Any help much appreciated!

      Click Start and scroll down.
Find Windows System and expand that.
      Select Control Panel
Look in the upper right and set View By to Large or Small icons.
      Select Sound
      Then select the Sounds Tab

I believe the feature to set your own startup & shutdown sounds was removed. The only option is to change the registry or use the default startup sound.

Yes the option is there but I’ve found nothing plays when set.

Is the sound that you are wanting to use on the drive?

Tested several sounds and works perfectly even after reboot.

                EDITED
Are you hearing sounds at all even if you use the defaults?

Tried changing reg but that doesn’t work. I can only turn the windows jingle on or off and the Start Up option doesn’t show just windows log on!

“Windows has always allowed to you to customize different alert sounds from the Control Panel, but it remove your ability to customize a few of them in Windows 10 particularly the sounds for logon, logoff, and shutdown.”

It looks like they can be changed through the Registry, but I would not advise in messing with this as it can cause irreparable system damage.

Through Sound Settings you can disable or enable the startup sound, but that’s as far as I can advise taking it.

Already changed the registry to enable the start up to appear in the list to be selected but that didn’t work. But that was log on not start up! Are they the same?
                      Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels\W indowsLogon

                        “ExcludefromCPL” Changed value to “0”
So if I did this Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels\W indowsStartup would that do it?

Got to love some windows when they take away stuff as users we enjoy and replaces with useless garbage.

Honestly may never work the way you want with all of the security stuff they have evoked to prevent windows tampering.
