Save as doc not showing

Since the file saved from Wordpad have you tried open office again and what were the results. Also see if Notepad works.

if you save elsewhere, like the Documents folder, that works?

and even though it says it saved to Desktop, but you can’t see it there, re-open any one of those tested programs and see if you can open that saved Desktop file from the Recent list.
if you can, it is on the Desktop (somewhere) and you can’t see it.
if you cannot, it really didn’t save to the Desktop.
