    Extreme Hard Drive Slowness

    Hi there,

    I’ve been using my computer as normal, the day prior, and even after that I was able to use it normally for a bit. Unfortunately, then my D: Drive started acting up, stuff started taking longer to load and apps that ran on my D: Drive started freezing constantly. Thinking it was because of low space I started deleting files, but freeing up space has had no effect. It’s a 3TB Hard Drive, so I decided to run a check disk because I believed the Hard Drive had bad sectors. To my surprise, check disk found no issues whatsoever despite the check itself taking 11 hours. Disk defragmentation didn’t affect it, and it’s still running as slow as ever. In fact, in Task Manager it’s constantly running at 100% load even when idle, and constantly goes from high read and write speeds to nothing over and over. There are no noises coming out of my PC, no loud scratching or anything and I’m questioning if my hard drive is near the end of its life. I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do to attempt to fix this issue myself or if I should take this to a professional and see what they’re able to discern.

    How and what switched did you use to run check disk?

    If you think that is the drive that is possible FAILING, then may be a great idea to BACKUP your personal data to an external drive before it is lost totally.

    So other can assist let get a speccy report.

    [COLOR=rgb(243, 121, 52)]Do not forget to post the make and model of the PSU if this is a desktop.

    Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

    To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

    In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

    In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

    Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

    Maybe even a Minitoolbox may shed some light

    You will need to download to a working system then use an external device to run on the affected system.
    Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop. Right click on the file and select Run as Admin

    Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options.

    Select all

    Click on Go.

    copy and paste the contents of the file called MTB.txt or attach the file to your next post.[/COLOR]

            You are running out of space on the C drive

            Partition 2

            Size: 231 GB
            Used Space: 188 GB (81%)
            [COLOR=rgb(243, 121, 52)]Free Space: 43 GB (19%)

            Now a days you have to have 30 percent of the drive available for windows to run properly plus 32 GB available for Windows to update. Then there is also reserved around 7-10 GB.

            Since also you cleared out space on the D drive did you optimize it?[/COLOR]

              Yes, I am, though the C drive is not running slow at all. It seems to be only the D: Drive that is running into massive issues. I can try to clear out the C drive a bit.
              I did optimize and defrag it, but the tool stated there were no issues.

                This should show us if there is a possible HDD failure.

                    preventive maintenance if we can prevent something form happening. Just because it is not now does not mean it will not in the near future.

                    In regard to it is starting to fail suggest that you get replace.

                      I understand, I’ll try and see if I can free up space.
                      In regards to the Drive, I’ll see if I can get someone to look at it and try to get data off of it. Thanks for your help.
