Locked myself out of a folder

I got a program called Lock-a-Folder which lets you encrypt folders within your computer. Unfortunately I lost my password, and the company no longer seems to existโ€“their support email (support@lockafolder.com) goes nowhere. Iโ€™m afraid it might make it worse if I just uninstall the program. Any suggestions?

Did you create the recommended password hint?
Do you have a system image backup in order to restore the file to its unencrypted state?
As the program only goes up to Windows 7 Iโ€™d say itโ€™s no longer supported By the devs.

obviously remembering your password would be the best way forward.
but you have discovered the inherit flaw with all these type of programs, be it password keepers or encryption software. there is no โ€˜get out of jailโ€™ card like there is with PC logins, or email passwords, or online accounts, that have a โ€˜forgot passwordโ€™ process.

do you have a backup of the folder before it was encrypted?
how many folders are we talking?
and how important is the lost data?
