    Ext HD formatting requested

I have been using an external HD for some time, but now it is inaccessible. I have trued the 3 USB ports on the laptop. 2 can’t access the drive at all and the third wants to format it.

Have tried the HD on a chrome book and it can identify the drive and access/open the files.

Have run chkdsk on Windows, whilst it wasn’t aborted it did suggest many segments were unreadable.

I have also run a virus check on the disk with no issues found.

    Are there any other suggestions?

Also get this message when I double click on the drive path in file explorer.

Post a complete screen shot of the Disk Manager.

Might look at moving the files through here to another drive so they are not gone forever.

Then you can run test on the drive for issues.

excellent chance that the drive has gone pear shaped.
also, being an external drive, they tend to get knocked more simply due to their easy access and mobility.

is the data on it backed up anywhere?
