How to empty Google photos to a Hard Drive

I have used my maximum 15GB of Google Drive storage with my photos/videos.
I have bought a 4TB HD and do not want to purchase storage with Google.
I thought I could just move all Google photos across to my HD, using my Windows filing system, however it seems I need to download 15GB of photos to my PC first, then move them to the HD.
I cannot do this in Google Drive as it is full.
I gather Google takeout is not good for large quantities of photos/videos.
I would prefer not to end up with hundreds of zip files either, as I’ll find that overwhelming then will get lost in the process and probably stuff it up!
    I read about MultCloud .
Can anyone recommend it for my purposes?
    Thank you.

Not the way you wanted yet it is the only way to do this is by downloading them one at a time to prevent zip files or in groups which would be a zip file.

For the free it states 5 GB is that storage or how much you can transfer at one time?

From what I have looked at if you have the files transferred to form Google to HDD will it zip them or download them the way you want them. Could not find specific information on this.

Thanks Rusty. I’ve learned more overnight and tried MultCloud without success due to tech difficulties. Am now downloading in small albums. Cheers.

Just a suggestion that if you have created directories in Google and if some of them are small just right click those and select download.

This way it will download the entire thing and use the name of the directory (folder) as the zip file name.

Thanks Rusty. I googled β€œdirectories” and read about the Google Directories which ended 2011. Further reading suggested perhaps only businesses can access certain features of Google? I’m a home user of Google. Don’t pay any fees. Can I create a β€˜directory’ or are you simply saying create a β€˜folder’?

That is interesting I create them on a daily basis in Google Drive so. Do not know what you are were reading will say that it is false.

Some call then directories some call them folders.

Click on My Drive and then select New Folder.
