    Hp Slim desktop slow

    Hi all,

    Any help is massively appreciated.

I have an HP slim desktop I use for work. It has 4GB Ram (can provide more details if need be, specificy exactly because needless to say I’m bad at It).

Won’t let me attachphotos re. Task manager processes. My cpu is c. 20% but ranges (max 40%). My memory is c. 85% and disk is c. 100%.

My question is, do I just need to buy RAM and things will speed up? I don’t need lightning performance just a fairly quick computer. Am mindful of disk at C. 100% not that I know what that means.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

The disk is now at 12%, seems to range a lot and not even working at computer just email open and the program I need for work (which is using the most ram and cpu)

Windows 10. On my way to curry’s with the computer, gonna get a 8gb ram. Should I go bigger? Lol only one ram slot so gna have to replace existing.

        Thanks

Thank. Which build - 21H2 is the latest update.
I would check if the ram you’re considering purchasing is compatible beforehand. I would purchase the maximum ram which the pc can take.
I would also consider upgrading the HDD to a SSD at some point.

Not sure which build unfortunately as taken computer apart now I got the correct size ram physically and its a ddr4 as per my computer. Will see how I get on. Curry’s didn’t have ram storage in store so went to CeX and he knew as much as me really lol.
Gonna jump on YouTube and try switch the rams now wish me luck

They only had 8gb which is a shame but an improvement I guess. Was cheap at Β£14 (2nd hand shop)

So far so good - it’s given it a considerable boost for Β£14. Much quicker (was glacial before)

With my taxing program open its got CPU down to single digits but ranges up to 20%

Memory is under 50% now and the disk is often at 0-3%! Down from 100%.

Really happy. Thanks for your help I’ll check out the sdd in future probably when get a 16gb ram card if it’s suitable.

For reference I got a 8gb ddr4 2400mhz Samsung ram card from cex.

                  Cheers

                    glad you got it sorted.

going from HDD to SSD would definitely be the next expenditure I’d do on the unit.
that would also give a noticeable boost by quiet a few factors.
and it would be a double advantage, as I’d also recommend reloading Windows on ageing PC’s, just to freshen everything up.
and when upgrading to a SSD, it’s best to do that anyway - so two birds with one stone so to speak.

I usually reload Windows on my rig every 2 years or so, a) to keep some skin in the game and b) as said, freshen things up and remove lingering crap and unused files.

no updates which I’ll take as a good sign.
                      closing as solved.
