Lost sound

I have a PC running Windows 10. All of a sudden I have no audio. The speakers are plugged into the back as they have been. The little speaker icon on the bottom right has a red X through it indicating that there is no device. If I plug it into the audio port in the front of the pc it recognizes that there is a device, but I am getting no sound.

Any ideas?

Headphones were also tried and do not work.

Might be worth trying a system restore, before you try a bunch of steps…

I would first check to see if Mute is on.
If you open device manager is there any ! On the audio entry?
