NEED HELP WITH MY PRODUCT KEY

Okay how do I explain this… So a while back, I built my own PC and since I had no money left to buy windows, I had to download the β€œfree” version or the trial/restricted version. That was fine but now I have bought a product key. However, I accidentally bought the Windows Home product key rather than the Pro and it now wont let me use the key to activate my windows. I have already tried going through the clean install process where you reinstall windows. I also tried renaming the thing to Home thru the settings and stuff but it didnt work either. Please let me know what else I can possibly do. I don’t have another 155 bucks to spend on a different product key.

You can download the and create the install media for the Microsoft site and preform a fresh install.

Make sure that you select the home version during the install?

Have you contacted the seller to return and refund and get the proper key?

Guess it would of helped if I included the link to the site to download form…
        https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

It will create the install media for you if you use the USB. Make sure to use a 16 GB thumb-drive or larger I have found systems have less of an issue with them.

Have to agree they do not know what they are doing sometimes.

You installed the home version since that is the only one that key will work with.

You did preform a wipe and reinstall?

I might have done it wrong? I just don’t want to lose all my applications and files.

Backup your files to an external drive and then you can reinstall your application.

Then you can wipe the drive the reinstall. do not forget to install the drivers starting with the chip set.

                  Hi there,

Downgrading is not guaranteed to work and Microsoft does not recommend doing so, rather doing a clean install which you have already done.

The likely reason you are not able to to use the key is because either it’s blacklisted or it’s tied to your Microsoft account or another Microsoft account using a digital license. Did you buy this key directly from Microsoft?
