    classic shell starmenu

I use classic /open shell start menu v.4.4.160 on windows 10 .this program doesn’t work properly anymore: in search bar it now only shows microsoft files but no more files saved by me. I tested this on another version, v.4.3.1, no results either. Do you have any advice on how I can fix this?

the latest OpenShell was released Oct 2020.
there have been a couple of major Win10 releases and multiple minor releases in that time.
in other words, chances were always excellent that after every Win10 update, these sort of programs have to reflect whatever menu changes MS introduced. they were always reactive, adjusting to the always moving goals posts.

i stopped using these shell programs about 6 years ago and just unpin all the tiles in the Start Menu and use it like it’s always been.
it has improved a lot since those crappy Win8 metro app days.

I conclude from your explanatory information that microsoft is to blame for this problem, and also that classic shell does not provide an update, right? it means that it is impossible to fix it, because this is the advice I need-ed … this program I consider to be the best start menu…

if you mean MS have released numerous changes over numerous months and the developers of your software have not bothered to keep up to date and reflect those changes so their users enjoy a seamless experience, then yes, MS is to blame!

between pinning your own stuff to the Start Menu and right clicking it to show the Power Menu (same as Windows+X), I would have thought the need for these 3rd party menu programs would have died off by now, especially when they break after every major release.

I used to use StartIsBack when it first came out on 2015 but they went a few months of not updating the software after one particularly big Win10 release and I gave up on them and forced myself to use the native Start Menu.

this all means - this is the end of the story…thank you … I will still use the classic shell because I have been used to it for a long time. in the taskbar I added β€˜β€˜search’’ of ms, next to cl.shell … i don’t like this ''search β€˜β€™ as it shows too much like search on the web! which I don’t need it cos it concerns My files in my pc, right? do I have another choice? i don’t think so …

I see StartIsBack has done a recent release. and at $3 one off fee, that’s not too bad.
you just need to find another developer that does regular updates.

I saw classic shell some alternatives once and didn’t know this software you told me might show -search. many thanks for this tip - I am glad! I installed it and it is similar to classic shell and ''search β€˜β€™ works like in cl.shell! I will buy it .another, interesting thing - my friends use cl.shell and the same wind.10 and it works fine for them! you can expect that one day-it will stop, too like at my pc. summer greetings from flanders / belgium / to u,dear bruce , to australia …

glad you liked it. hopefully you’ll have a long run with it, but I suspect Win11 might stuff things up for a while.

thanks for the summer greetings - we are just coming out of a mild winter, nothing compared to your ones though!

i just bought this license and a few hours later read about it, see this link … what a coincidence! it’s a nice surprise and good news, right?

It's been a while since there was a release and the artifacts have expired so I decided to make a new release. There were several fixes and improvements since the last release, please check the rep...
