Hi… I have strange dilemma. Purchased referb desk top PC. Should have came with Home 10, but is Enterprise and they sent no code. They finally sent 10 Home key
and of course would not work. Only option they gave was to return at a $ loss and trouble for me. Is there anything I can do to salvage? All I want is something workable to be able to change video settings not available without being registering. Zene

You can just download and create install media and install Windows 10 Home using the key they sent you.

      Two choices:
1: Clean install Windows 10 Home & use the new key. This imo would be the best option.
2: Try this by Andre Da Costa:
Unfortunately, clean install is your only option, you can’t downgrade from Pro/Enterprise to Home. Changing the key will not work. You could try the following work around then test your luck:
Open Registry Editor (WIN + R, type regedit, hit Enter)
Browse to key HKEY_Local Machine > Software > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion
3: Change EditionID to Home (double click EditionID, change value, click OK). In your case it should at the moment show Pro or Enterprise.
4: Change Product Name to Windows 10 Home. In your case it should at the moment show Windows 10 Professional or Enterprise.
Browse to key HKEY_Local Machine > Software > Wow6432Node > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion, change the same two values as in steps 3 and 4 above
      Close the Registry Editor
Insert the Windows 10 Home installation media, do an in-place upgrade by launching the setup from desktop (not booting with Windows 10 Home install media)
When asked, enter your valid Windows 10 Home product key and select what to keep (settings, personal files and apps, only personal files or nothing)
Windows 10 Home in-place upgrade will be done now.

the fact they pre-loaded Enterprise and took ages to send you the Product Key, which should have been included in the original delivery, all screams cracked version of Windows to me.
and if I’m reading your post right, you have already entered the Win Home key and it didn’t work?

if the agreement was to include Windows then you should hassle them for the installation media and the Product Key. without people stepping up and holding these dodgy practices accountable, they’ll just keep on fleecing other people. but of course it’s easier to get your own install media, which is exactly what they count on you doing.

Hi… Thx, they finally did send 10 Home key, but did not work. Enterprise is a different animal. Zene

as stated by others, before you can use the Home key, you need to install Win10 Home on the PC, and there is no downgrade path from your Enterprise version, you will have to save any of your data you want kept, create the installation media onto a bootable USB stick using the Windows Media Creation Tool, and install a fresh copy of Windows 10.

The bigger question is did they send you a legit key or one that they have used on other systems.

You should also wipe the entire drive then use the Windows Media Creation Tool to create the install media install from there.

                    I suspect a volume license.
Right click on start & choose powershell with admin & enter: slmgr.vbs /dlv
This will show a popup showing whether your license is OEM, Retail, or Volume amongst other information.
If it says KMS it’s certainly a volume license.
