HDD and SSD Trouble

Hi Guys,

So just did a major upgrade to PC and everything was fine, i used the same HDD from my old computer so did not upgrade this. i instead purchased an NVMe SSD Drive (1TB)
I installed the SSD and suddenly had problems. My computer would not boot up straight away. My HDD was no longer recognised and in the Boot menu i disabled the boot priority as it was UEFI Ipv6 or something, and my windows then booted.

So i then attempted to clone my HDD to SSD and had an error 1117 i/o device error. but when i looked the files have been transferred over, all the documents are there on the SSD.

When i click ‘My Pc’ it ofcourse shows you how much is remaining and how much is taken in your drives, they are identical but the Windows icon is on the top of the C drive (HDD) so i assume windows is still installed on this? Anyway, i went to BIOS again, and HDD drive is still not being shown, and it actually says its booting from my Adlink SSD.
(the boot is still really slow mind you)

Should i just format the HDD as i still want this for game downloads etc and have the SSD as boot drive.
Or should i just download windows on a usb and wipe everything? i dont have anything that valuable, only time of downloads (like 200gb call of duty)
Or any other suggestion would be great. thank you!

Hello

Most people use a SSD to run the OS and use the HDD for storage.. If you have all the files you want you could/can format that HDD..
Will let more of our members chime in on this as well..

Hey, yeah so thats the plan, i cloned the HDD to the SSD (and it failed as mentioned) but all the files are replicated in the SSD regardless.
It seems my SSD is booting windows already according to the BIOS, as the HDD is not being found in BIOS but it is within Windows (C: Drive)
But on windows it has the icon on the C drive still.
when i trty and boot from this drive (c i get blue screen and says unable to.

just very confusing,

Picture attached is an example of my work computer, at home i have Local Disk C with the windows icon, and SSD D: drive, both at the moment have the exact same files to the MB
When i get home i will upload some pictures of BIOS etc to help explain.

Probably is caused by having 2 OS’s on your pc.. One in the SSD and the other in the HDD.

im going to install windows on a USB and wipe both drives and do a fresh install on the SSD and go from there i think

that’s what i was going to recommend you do HoustyJ.
wipe the SSD and in BIOS set the SSD to ACHI mode for faster boot times.
obviously make sure all your files are back on the HDD.

since the SSD is 1TB, space (for now) won’t be an issue, but as veeg has said, the normal practice is to use SSD’d for software and HDD for data, but that was back when SSD’s for a) small, b) costly and c) not too reliable.

in your case, I’d be happy to use the SSD for all my porposes and pout the HDD in an external enclosure and use it for backups.
