    Using OneDrive

My first problem was not being able to get the OneDrive icon in the taskbar.
After trying several methods I found on the web, which were unsuccessful, I uninstalled OneDrive and then re-installed it.
This worked and I was able to go to settings and perform the tasks recommended.
The only trouble is that when the computer is shut down the icon is lost so it means uninstalling and re-installing again.
To share a link, I opened OneDrive from File Explorer and dragged a small video file and a picture file into the window.
According to the instructions I downloaded, when I right click the file there should be a “Share a OneDrive link” option.
There is no such command on my computer, all I have is a “Share” option with the video and not even that with the picture.
I click “Share” and a dialogue appears with “We need some more information” at the top and Mail, OneNote and Skype below.
When I click the “We need some more information” link I get a search box but I’ve no idea what to search for so I click “Mail.”
This opens the Mail dialogue with my address in the “From” box and I enter my address in the “To” box.
Below that is what must be the Subject box with the name and format of the file I’m sending.
I click “Send” and “Sending mail” appears.
When I open my email there’s no sign of the message.
    Am I doing something wrong?

when you say Taskbar, do you mean the system tray, as in bottom right of screen, next to date/time etc?
and forgetting the PC acces to OneDrive for the moment, does it all work as advertised if you go to the onedrive.com website, log in with your MS account and use it that way?

        Thank you Bruce,
Yes I meant the system tray.
No I haven’t been to the OneDrive website but thanks to you I will try that.

I’ve been to the website Bruce and chose the “Sign in” option and signed in.
This opens a site with 5 folders in the top section which are; Attachments, Desktop, Documents, Personal Vault Pictures..

          Attachments is empty.
Desktop has the 2 folders I have on the Desktop.
Documents and Pictures have all the folders I have in those 2 folders
          Personal vault contains security info.
Below that several pictures and videos.

I can’t find anything that would allow me to “work as advertised.”

whatever you were trying to do on the PC, you can now do from the OneDrive website.
hover your mouse over a file/picture and you’ll see a share icon appear, or right click a file and select Share.
in other words, what you were attempting to do in the desktop app and couldn’t, you should now be able to.

if that all pans out, then the next issue is why is the desktop app misbehaving - but one step at a time.

              Hello again Bruce,
I’ve opened the OneDrive web-site and right clicked one of the pictures present and clicked Share.
The Send Link dialogue opened and I entered the email address of a friend and sent it.
              It was a success.
Why I haven’t succeeded before is because I’ve been trying to send the link to my address.
I’ve found out by trial and error that I have to click the “Copy Link” button and then copy the URL and paste it in the email link dialogue.
I think I can do without the icon, I know I can get if if I want it.
Thank you for all your help Bruce,
              Ken
