I recently finished building my pc and was looking for an operating system. I was installing Windows 10 but it was taking a long time but luckily a member of my family managed to get a bootable drive from their workplace. After setting up my pc it started either freezing or crashing with the error CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT. Whenever I boot into Safe Mode, the crashing and freezing stops. The same thing happened for a while when I reinstalled windows with the same bootable drive and didnβt install anything. I can usually last 15 minutes before it freezes or crashes my system.
Pc keeps freezing and/or crashing

Welcome to PCHF MyComputerIsBruh,
Not around for long as I need to go out but will chime in with a couple of questions and hopefully move things along for you.
Have you installed the drivers for the motherboard and starting with the chipset drivers first.
What version of Windows was on this "bootable drive from their workplace. " -

It has Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit on the bootable drive. Itβs a large struggle to download files (especially large files) on my pc as it usually freezes during the installation. This isnβt helped due to the fact itβs downloading using my phone data instead of wifi (Iβve moved house and weβve been unable to get Wi-Fi). Is it possible to download on a different PC and transfer said file via usb to my new PC?
ThanksComment

See option two here and dont forget to install the chipset drivers for the motherboard once Windows has been installed.

I have a question though. Can an unactivated key cause this freezing? Due to the fact that I can only use my Phone Data instead of WiFi, my computer canβt activate/confirm my activation key. Can this be the problem?
Thanks for your help!Comment

Yes as you will be denied updates and hotfixes any one of which may resolve your problem/s.
If you do not have a LAN line why don[ICODE]t you take your computer to a friends or family members home and activate it there, don[/ICODE]t forget to take your Windows 10 digital entitlement key if you do this, alternatively ask a local tech or tech store if they would hook up the computer and activate it for you.

The computer working in safe mode normally suggests a driver issue but that would not explain the CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT error which is related to the CPU, a combination of driver issues and overheating could cause such an error though.

Only leaves you with getting the OS activated then I`m afraid as any testing that we can do requires an internet connection for you to be able download the testing software and then upload the results for us, there is also the PCHF Terms and Rules which prohibit us from helping when there is an unlicensed version of Windows involved.Comment
