Black Screen after "Preparing automatic repair" message on start-up

Hi it looks like I have a real issue with my asus X540L laptop: I get a โ€œpreparing automatic repairโ€ message on start-up but then just a black screen nothing else happens(!)

Apart from go into BIOS, which doesnโ€™t seem to help, I just donโ€™t know what to do so any help or ideas on here very welcome and appreciatedโ€ฆ

    Welcome to PCHF Stew50,

If you remain in the BIOS does the BIOS information remain on the screen or does that also go blank after a while.

Hi yes it seems perfectly fine in BIOS - Iโ€™ve spent a while there looking around as I canโ€™t do much else really!

Would normally suggest a software issue, the following being possible culprits, driver issue, Windows corruption or a bad Windows update, not to be ruled out, a problem with the storage device resulting in Windows not to be able to load.

See if you are able to force the computer to start in the Windows Recovery Environment (RE) by starting up and shutting down the computer two or three times using the notebooks power button, please note that you need to shut down the computer after the MBs splash screen and just as Windows attempts to load, if successful you should then continue to the Troubleshooting options and then hopefully be able to use a system restore point, a system restore or Safe Mode etc.

Let us know how it goes or if you have any questions along the way.

          You are welcome
