    New build, barely any sound.

    I’ve just build a computer with the following:

    Motherboard: MSI B450M Pro-M2 V2
    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600
    Memory: 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance
    HDD: Seagate BarraCuda 2TB
    SSD: Crucial BX500 480GB
    OS: Win 10 Home

    The computer runs perfectly fine, but almost no audio will play. I’ve tried testing the audio through the monitor, as well as headphones in the front and rear jacks. When I play test audio in the Windows manage audio device window, I’ll see the levels increase as if sound was playing, but I can only hear the faintest of sounds, and that’s only with the headphones connected to the rear jacks.
    I’ve tried the following:

    [li]Updating drivers for the motherboard via manufacturer’s website[/li][li]Updating BIOS[/li][li]Updating Windows and bringing it up to the latest build[/li][li]Deleting the drivers and restarting Windows to allow automatic driver installation[/li][li]Downloading Driver Easy and updating all the recommended drivers[/li][li]Running the Windows audio troubleshooter a bunch(absolutely useless)[/li][/ul]
    And yes, I’ve checked all the volume levels. Everything is to the max and the best I can do is a slight sound in my left headphone only. I would appreciate any help anybody could give me. Thank you very much.

    have you tried speakers plugged into the back, green jack?

      Yes, I’ve tried front and rear jacks, as well as audio from the monitor. With the rear jacks, I can hear only the faintest of sounds, and only in the left channel.

        what plug is connected to the audio header on the mobo?
        case manufactures usually offer two choices.

        also, try with that plug disconnected from the mobo.

        and the speakers and headphones work fine when plugged into some other device?

          The HD Audio cable from the case is connected to the JAUD1, and that appears to be the only audio cable from the case and the only audio connector on the motherboard. And yes, the headphones work fine with other devices. I’ve just tried unplugging the HD Audio, but that seems to have done nothing.

            Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

            To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

            In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

            In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

            Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

                You have two sound cards installed atm and they may be conflicting;

                Audio
                Sound Cards

                  DxDiag finds no issues, report here:

                  The TextSaver lets you save text online. Save lists, essays, text messages, code, snippets, phrases, names, HTML, whatever!


                  I also just went to the device manager under β€œSound, video and game controllers” and tried disabling either sound card and restarting, but nothing worked.

                    Did you use the sound test tab in DxDiag.

                    I suggest that you start from scratch with this and beginning with trying to get sound from just the rear speaker port using speakers and not a headset.

                    In case you are not already aware, you can only use either the rear audio ports or the front audio ports independently, not both at the same time and the rear audio ports take priority over those on the case front.

                    Can I ask what the brand of your video card is, reason I ask is because I noticed the following in Speccy;

                    PCI-to-PCI Bridge
                    Radeon RX 570 Series
                    Generic PnP Monitor
                    High Definition Audio Bus
                    AMD High Definition Audio Device
                    3 - U2790B (AMD High Definition Audio Device)

                      I have a PowerColor Red Dragon Radeon RX 570 AXRX 570 4GBD5-3DHD/OC. I’ll have to get speakers somewhere to test out. I’ve been testing the monitor’s speakers via DP cable, and my headphones via rear headphone jack.

                        If you have a good quality DP cable you should be able to get audio from the monitor if you plug the other end of the cable into the display port on the RX 570 video card.

                        The idea of hooking up speakers is to test the MBs integrated audio chip via the rear audio out jack port, the green one that Bruce previously mentioned.

                          Update: Have found out that I can get sound with a USB headset, but still not from the green audio jack. It’s something, at least.

                            That means that the audio chip is ok and you have the correct drivers so the issue must be with the rear audio port/s.
