I have downloaded all the drivers, DriveMax recommended for audio. Yesterday I had uninstalled DriverMax because I did not like the pop-ups. I did not know what an IDT was until it occurred to me I should search for its meaning on Google. Integrated Device Technology, unfortunately we don’t have the luxury of hindsight, but if I recall DriveMax did not have any recommended drivers to do with IDT.

I have purchased an external usb sound card as a temporary solution. The laptop works fine apart from sound, it would be silly to get rid of it for this reason. The USB sound card is a bit annoying as laptops by their very nature encourages mobility so a usb dongle hanging from it is a bit tedious. I am always concerned I might either break the usb slot, and/or headphones, and/or microphone. I sometimes have to create podcasts which requires a microphone - previously when the sound worked, the built-in sound card did not need an additional microphone.

Your computer has an IDT audio chip if you want to remove the USB audio device and install the IDT Audio driver put a tick in the second Audio box at the Toshiba homepage.
