Switching from 32bit to 64bit Windows 10

As stated in the title, I am currently running windows10 32bit and would like to install 64bit. Several days ago I upgraded my windows 8.1 32bit to 10 32 bit and have been searching for a way to move to 64bit since then.

I have both the 32 and 64bit versions saved to a USB stick using the media creation tool, however when I attempt to install the 64 bit version I run into problems.
I tried setting my boot priorities of my bios to start from USB, but all that happens, is that windows boots normally.

Now when I try to run the setup from the files I run into the error message that this app cannot be run on this PC and am prompted to get a different version compatible with my PC. I can post the exact message if necessary, however it will then be in German.

I checked the needed specifications and am (fairly) certain, that my computer meets the requirements, could be wrong though:

CPU- Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @3.00 GHz
Mainboard- ABIT IP35 (Intel P35+ICH7)
BIOS- Phoenix Technologies Ltd. Version 6.00PG
Memory- 8 GB DDR2 (4x2GB PC2-6400 Samsung)
Graphics- AMD Radeon HD7800 Series 2GB XFX Pine Group Inc

As to the why.. well after taking a 6 year long break from any sort of gaming whatsoever, I’ve decided to start playing WOW again. During my absence however Blizzard decided to take down all of their 32bit servers and I now require a 64bit OS to be able to run the game. (Which I didn’t find out until after I had paid to renew my subscription)

If you are looking to use windows 10 64 bit and play games it really is time to update that seriously OLD hardware.

as you probably have discovered, you have to reload Windows when converting from 32bit to 64bit.
I would create a bootable USB stick with Win10 64bit on it.
as the PC starts, hit F9 (or is it F12) to show the boot menu, selecting your USB stick.
make sure you have all your data backed up.
and when reloading all your software, install the 64bit versions (naturally).
you’ll finally also be able to use all that 8GB of memory instead of only 3GB.

Couple of other points to consider.

1: There are no Windows 10 drivers for your GPU and MB.

2: Unless you originally purchased the full retail version of Windows that included both the 32 and 64-bit option and subsequent product keys you will have to purchase a 64-bit product key for Windows 10 after clean installing it.

So in essence it makes no sense to switch to 64bit. Guess its time to junk it all then.

it’s just too long in the tooth.
even without the added expense or the time to do all this, you may get it all going today but eventually something else will come along and highlight the hardware’s shortcomings.
especially if you are getting into gaming again.

Depends, it wont make a gaming rig but you may be able to use the parts for a HTPC.
