Random BSOD - Memory Fault??

    Random BSOD - Memory Fault??

    Recently bought a second hand pc off some guy. It was working well until it started randomly blue screening. Ran a memory diagnostics test as I heard this could help and it came back with potential hardware issues. I have since removed the affected RAM and re-ran the diagnostics test, and voila, no hardware errors. The computer is now lasting a bit longer but still throws up a BSOD when I try to run a game or update windows. Have also updated my drivers for every bit of hardware I could think of and nothing is helping. At this point I’m just very confused as to wether my hardware is broken or if there’s a software issue. Does anyone have a solution which could help me out?

    Welcome to PCHF Ryannewacc,

    We could do with some further information and starting with any crash dmps.
    1. Copy any dmp files from C:\Windows\Minidump onto the desktop.
    2. Select all of them, right-click on one, and click on Send To> New Compressed (zipped) Folder.
    3. Upload the zip folder using the Attach button, bottom left of the dialogue input box

      Thanks for the reply? When I go to open the mini dump file it says that I do not have valid permissions to access the folder. When I click continue, it opens but the folder is empty. Not sure what to do from here

        Sounds like crash dmps are not enabled on the computer, see Small Memory Dump (256KB) info here

        Going offline shortly but will check back tomorrow after work.

          I have enabled mini dumps now. I have to head to work as well so will be back online tonight to try and recreate the BSOD and attach the minidump file.

                Sorry I have been super super busy with work haven’t had any spare time. I’ve been testing it out this evening and it seems to be running ok. Worked for about 2 hours with no issue and then started shutting off (this time with no BSOD). Probably only 10% of the time does it actually attempt to collect info before powering off. I only have 2 minidump files in the folder.
                I also checked out some details and noticed that I’m running on an unlicensed version of Windows 10. Not sure if this would have anything to do with it though. Starting to think it may be a hardware issue, but this would still surprise me as it’s showing as no errors when I run a diagnostics test. Any help is much appreciated and I’ll try to respond as soon as I can. Cheers heaps - Ryan

                  Thanks for letting us know this, unfortunately though as per the PCHF Terms and rules we can only help you to either remove the non legit version of Windows or to help you get the present OS legitimately activated by Microsoft.

                  Can I ask how you come to have an unlicensed version of Windows on your computer without you knowing it, whoever has installed the OS could find themselves on the wrong side of the law

                  As an asides, using unlicensed or cracked versions of Windows can cause all sorts of stability issues and/or malware attack.

                    I’ve only just purchased this pc second hand so I’d say that’s probably why he was selling it so cheap!! If it’s the OS that’s causing problems than I would 100% download a legit version of Windows 10. Where would I start with this?
