    PC Slowed down after cleaning.

    I do not perfectly understand the root of the cause so I think itโ€™s better to give you guys and idea of how this came to be;

    A few days ago, Iโ€™ve started getting crashes from playing WoW, and It wasnโ€™t much of an unexpected surprise as the interior of my PC hadnโ€™t been cleaned for about two months. However, I feel like itโ€™s important to note that while I was getting these crashes (as Iโ€™ve been launching the game a few times before finally cleaning) my framerate was fairly usual (60+ fps, rarely below 50), I didnโ€™t get any lag spikes or long loading screens, my fan would get louder until eventually my screen would go black and my gpu would overheat. Since it was late, I decided to start cleaning the next morning.

    The next day, I took out my GPU and it was filled with dust, I used a compressed air can to try and blow away as much dust as possible but it didnโ€™t really do much of a job, so I decided to use a very small thin screwdriver to delicately loosen the dust from the wedges making little contact if any to the actual gpu, and then delicately taking it out. When a majority of the dirt/dust was removed, I again used the compressed air to remove as much as I could. I Placed the gpu back to the way it was, and eventually turned the PC back on. Turned on WoW, No crashes, the fan considerably quieter than previously however, without adjusting the graphics, I would get below 30 fps, frequently (every second or so) dropping below 10. Loading screens would take minutes. I considered that maybe my gpu is still overheating, but as I checked using OpenHardwareMonitor and msiAfterBurner my GPU hadnโ€™t exceeded 75, (75 being max, usually staying around 65-70). Performance was a huge difference, I went from running High Graphics Quality, having steam, discord, and a few tabs open on my browser open for music, youtube, or movies and functioning smoothly to now; barely even running WoW alone on lowest graphics settings.

    Anyone know what the issue may be? and if there are any solutions?

    Hello

    Could be your gpu is failing when it gets to hot. What brand of gpu do you have?

      Hello, Thanks for the reply.

      Iโ€™ve got a GeForce GTX 470, runs at around 65-70C, sometimes exceeding to 75C when running a game. Around 50C when idle.

          After ending a few background processes through task manager Iโ€™ve brought it down to 42C when idle, Using Microsoft edge jumps to 46-52 range. I donโ€™t know if thatโ€™s normal or not, thought Iโ€™d just mention just in case.

            Is this pc still under warranty? I am thinking the gpu is failing.. Also i would suggest that do not clean any dust out of your pc using any metal tool.

              Hi DiViND. Have you tried swapping out the video card to see if the low FPS continues to occur with another video card? If the FPS drops stop with a different card then your GTX 470 will be the culprit most likely.
