I built it myself (with some help from a friend) this Monday so I guess it will be the specific part which I need to send back.
My new computer won’t shut down or restart because of gpu

logic would also have me pinpointing the blame on the 1070 vid card.
card in, no signal.
card out, on-board card works fine.
rare for them to be DOA but that’s what warranty is there for, plus anyway, the shop won’t test/care and if the same thing happens with the replacement card you at least definitely will know that component isn’t the issue.
your PSU is big enough, so there issue there.
does that 1070 require extra power - you have plugged in the 4/6/8 pin connector/s to the vid card???Comment
-
It requires 1 connector (I think it’s a 6+2, I’m on my way to bed so can’t check)
Wouldn’t other things go wrong if the card doesn’t get enough power though?
At least, I forgot to plug it in one time today and it wouldn’t run at all
Luck would have it that a friend of mine has a similar card (same or maybe the ti I think) and build and has time tomorrow so I’m going to his place. We’re planning on swapping cards so hopefully my computer will work and his won’t when the cards are swapped as I then should be able to exchange the card easily enoughComment

What you could try before returning the card is.
[ol]
[li]Remove the 1070 from the pc[/li][li]Remove the driver[/li][li]Obviously then plug the monitor into your onboard video[/li][li]Download a new driver from the card manufacturers website.[/li][li]Stop Windows from downloading drivers.[/li][li]Install the card back in the PC and check that it works with no drivers, which it should.[/li][li]If the card works then install the downloaded driver[/li][/ol]Comment

I’ve removed the drivers while the card was in and it still ran fine. It also ran fine right after windows install when (according to add/remove programs at least) there was no graphics driver.
But I’ll try doing it in the order you suggests as well in case it makes a difference?
Thanks for the suggestion.Comment

We tried exchanging cards and it was definitely not the card mine worked fine in his computer and my computer didn’t work with his.
We also tried exchanging psu with the same result.
He has kept the computer to check the motherboard and bios as he has more experi nice with that…

I don’t think the vendor will allow me to just send everything back but probably the motherboardComment

I’ll suggest it to my friend (he has kept the computer to test it a bit more)
But is it likely that shorting would cause it to not shut all the way down but have no other problems?Comment

If I may chime in
The MB has two PCI-E slots, has the GPU been tried in both but the behaviour was the same.Originally posted by ZebrakattenMy build:
Intel core i5 3.6GHz, coffee lake
Asrock h370 pro 4
Nvidia GeForce Htx 1070
EVGA 750 wat g3
16 gb ram
Windows 10
Have you installed the latest BIOS, a couple of earlier BIOS updates were to address GPU compatibility, see info hereComment

The card has been tried in both slots with the same result (+we’ve tried my friends card with the same result)
I can’t remember if I’ve updated bios.. I know I did something with it but I’ve tried so much the last 3-4 days that I can’t even remember anymore XD
I’ll check it out and try it (again) if my version isn’t the newest.
Btw are you sure you sent the right link? I can’t find anything about bios updates there but maybe I’m not looking in the right place?Comment
