The above points towards a hardware issue, system short or a flaky PSU/power on button as a couple of examples.

Please provide information about your computer, this includes is it a notebook or desktop, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if it is provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the MB, add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable us to better assist you.

So the computer is a custom built PC. Here are some images of the components I bought and used.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Couple of things of note in Speccy, not sure that any of them would explain the computer shutting down though.

Your memory should be running at 800MHz.
DRAM Frequency: 666.5 MHz

You have high memory usage for a computer that is not under any load.
Physical Memory
Memory Usage: 26 %

A couple pf the voltages look off, these could be Speccy mis reporting them so we will check them another way in due course.
Voltage
AVCC: 3.296 V
3VCC: 3.296 V
CPU CORE: 0.240 V
VCCIN: 1.776 V
DRAM: 1.504 V
+12V: 11.088 V
+5V: 5.080 V

There are a lot of TCP Connections, this could be overloading your internet connection etc.

Left until the last as it is what I would suggest that you address first, I dont see the version of BIOS that you have at the MSI support page so it could be the original, try installing the latest BIOS which also includes the earlier upgrades, among the improvements are VGA/graphics compatibility.

BIOS
Brand: American Megatrends Inc.
Version: V1.12
Date: 11-Aug-15

NB: I would also suggest that you uninstall all drivers for devices that you no longer have or do still have but do not use.

Hi, Phil!

So I don’t know what I can do about TCP connections but I’ve given the BIOS a go.
I followed the link you provided. I can’t see the V1.12 you’re referring to. There’s a 1.1 and after 1.9 it goes to 1.A. I’ve downloaded the latest release which is 1.D but it only provides a 1D0 file so I have no idea how to install it.

To do so, open command prompt, type the following and hit Enter:
netsh int ip reset
netsh int ipv6 reset
netsh winsock reset

You will need to reboot.

Have you had chance to read the BIOS update info here

Thanks for the additional support Russ (y)

I did the IP reset. No noticable change. I’m currently waiting for the PC to accept turning on again before I read the bios stuff.
It’s still crashing and sometimes not turning back on for some time.

Ok i read thru your thread.. I am leaning towards a faulty psu. Looking at the speecy results, you have a low cpu voltage and this will make the cpu run hot,or will not run correctly. It would be prudent to run different software to check voltages and or if you can get into your bio’s and check those temps and voltages there.

Just checked the bios. It says MS-7917 Version: 1.2 but the number on the actual hardware says v1.1. I’m assuming that’s just the software updating on top of what it had on v1.1.
I’m going to see if I can find the updates now.

Figured out how to update the bios so I think that’s done properly.

Definitely still crashing and remaining off for anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour or so.

So you recommend a new power unit? PSU? Any particular makes or models you might recommend?
