I hope someone can help me
I just bought a new Windows 10 PC, and in the middle of moving files over to it from my old windows 7 PC
My question is on my old PC i was using Thunderbird but i want to start using outlook again
How can i set that up with the same email address & the emails that are saved
the same email address is easy, just set it up with the same settings youβll find in Thunderbird. (youβll have to remember your password though)
sadly Thunderbird imports emails from other email clients but cannot export to Outlook.
youβll either have to send them all to yourself and receive them in Outlook or save each one as an .eml or .msg file and drag them into Outlook.
thatβs all Iβve ever been able to do any way.
may be someone else has a better method.
In Outlook (Iβm assuming you have a recent version, say 2010, 2013 or 2016), go to File, Account Settings, Account Settings, New, Manual setup, POP or IMAP, and fill in your details.
You obviously know your email address, youβll have to dig out your password, and copy the fields from Thunderbird to fill in your incoming and outgoing servers.
In Thunderbird, work out if you have setup the account as a POP or IMAP type.
then for the emails you want to βexportβ, in Thunderbird open each one up and forward it to your email address, then open Outlook to receive it.
well its set up for all new emails, just stuck on my existing emails which are on the old PC, there must a another way of transferring my saved email with goinmg into everyone & doing what Bruce suggests, iβll be doing it all day & night
there certainly wasnβt about two years ago when I last tried Thunderbirds export feature, so unless they have improved thatβ¦
Thunderbird lets you migrate to them but have very limited functionality if you ever want to switch away from them and take all your emails with you.
from memory they do do a export of its Contacts to a CSV file so that can be imported into Outlook.
pretty sure I also tried dragging the email items out of Thunderbird to βdropβ them into Outlook and that too didnβt work.
