I have 2 e-mail addresses, one main, and one used for places I’m unsure of. That doesn’t count the google one that I seemed forced to have at some point when I wasn’t allowed to do something without signing up (too long ago to recall details). The Outlook client only deals with the main one. The other I access via browser, because I don’t want to mix untrusted correspondence with the main. I’d not want to do other than have a local client downloading to the PC and then deleting (as best as it could) communications on the e-mail server.

Uninstall Microsoft Office File Validation Add-In
Windows Update will try to put it back. Hide it.

Can one run multiple clients on a PC to see it all works ? If so do they manage not to mess each other up ?
I take it they’d refuse to share an account data file.

You have made a good argument for giving Em Client a test run.

I use it on one of my PCs. I do not hate it.

Uninstalled. Unsure how to hide. Do I have to reboot the PC to see if anything’s changed ?

Interesting. I tried to open it again to get a message that there was a serious error the last time the add-in β€œKaspersky outlook anti-spam addin” was opened. Think I’ll disable it for now.

Ah HA !!! Mail incoming now !

Wow so many e-mails about updates in PC Help Forum !

You can run multiple clients on one PC.
You can share data files ONLY if the clients use the same file extension (different versions of Office). Definitely not a wise choice.

Kaspersky is spyware, btw. According to some.

Ensure that Outlook is using Port 110 , not 587

                  I need a recap.

Is outlook listening on port 110 or 587?

                  Anti-virus software requires 110

Mail coming from the MS server (virtually any public web server) will not really benefit from a local anti-virus check on your PC. Those mails have already been scanned.

Use port 587 and no anti-virus routine.

To hide updates, you must run a troublehsooter
                  See:
Windows Update: FAQ - Microsoft Support

Opening wushowhide.diagcab will launch the troubleshooter. Then click Next to proceed and follow the instructions provided by the troubleshooter to hide the problematic driver or update.

                    Incoming (POP3) is 995
                    Outgoing (SMTP) is 465

These would have been taken from the e-mail provider’s instructions, finding a port that worked.

I didn’t note where it said I could look at and change Outlook add-ins, and now have not been able to find them to turn them on nor off.

I’ll have a look at the troubleshooter tomorrow, thanks.

Please disregard everything I posted regarding port numbers.

There is an issue with anti-virus and ports, but I have my numbers all jumbled.

Cheers. The add-in bit was well hidden ! I’ll note that it’s there but leave it alone for the present.

I still get the warning about redemption.dll when I start Outlook, but it’s worked like that for some months now without it being an issue.
Ah ha ! Redemption Helper Outlook Extension ! Must do a web search on that.

Maybe I should say that also, for years, I’ve not been getting e-mail automatically downloaded; that suddenly stopped working without any obvious cause, and I now have to hit that send/receive key when I think of checking. But it doesn’t worry me that much. I’d not bother correcting it normally, but as I’m here, does anyone know what might fix that ?

I may try that eM client on the secondary e-mail account. It’d be a good way to trial it.

Ah it looks like I’ve already downloaded wushowhide.diagcab
Probably when I was getting advice on getting the graphics issue fixed back in March.

When you make a post - and then edit that post, I waste X amount of my time.
