Bruce/Gus,
Just noticed that when I carry out Disk Clean-up, it does do Windows Cleanup.
(open disk cleanup/click OK for βCββ¦when done, click on Clean Up System Files)
Windows Cleanup is done, amongst other things.
Anything else to do/try?Comment

Try this go under Settings then System.
Now there should be on the left one that states Storage select that one.
Form here select This PC
Scroll down to Temporary Files and select that.
NOTE: some time I can get it to work selecting all of the boxes and clicking Remove Files other times I have to do each one one at a time.

youβve done all you can without cutting too deep.
if you want to clean the PC in general, try CCleaner from here; Download CCleaner builds | CCleaner Portable, Slim, and more
but your Windows folder isnβt that bad in the scheme of things, your overall free space is fine and I think we have pinpointed your \winsxs and \software distribution folders as the main culprits and there is nothing you can do to those folders without potential consequences.Comment

There is a tool that will clean up a lot more than Ccleaner, and I have used it for years it is safe and will clean up what you seek.
Code:[ Privazer]('https://privazer.com/')

Rustys/Bruce/Mal
Version is Win10 Home.
Have used CCleaner by the way.
Might try Privazer.
Seems like that is as far as we can go?Comment

Rustys/Bruce/Mal,
Just out of interest I downloaded Privazer on to my own PC and ran it. (I went no further than end of scan)
Please see attached screenshot of completed scan.
Before I hit start cleaning, do I need to create restore point - do I need to save registry?
What does the screenshot actually tell us?
Is it perfectly safe to use?Comment

when running anything like this, for the first time, especially a program that βremovesβ things, yes, a reg backup and a new restore point cannot hurt.
with reg cleaners, they really are useless from a performance and maintenance standpoint. from malware removal type of stuff, yep, they have their place.
even the official word from MS is to avoid reg cleaners.
with restore points, realise they only βsnapshotβ system files, not any of your personal files, and only certain system files at that. enough system files to hopefully rollback from a faulty driver installation, or to get the PC to boot again, they will not take the whole OS back to a point in time.
for that you should be doing image backups, say with Macrium Reflect Free, but there are others.
as to your last 2 questions, the screen shot tells me PrivaZer does cut a lot deeper than CC, but I knew that, and, as such, it may not be perfectly safe to use.
as stated earlier, you wonβt lose personal data but you may lose system settings, personal customisations etc, but it should be nothing you canβt recreate if needed.
sadly, no-one knows your PC better than you.Comment

Bruce/Mal/Gus/Rustys,
Sincere thanks for all your assistance - hope you donβt think I was wasting your time.
Sadly it seems we will have to live with the folder as it is.Comment
