In Windows 10 I am using the option to save my file history, but the file is getting HUGE. My question is, When I am using this option is Windows deleting contents along with adding content. For example If I save a video and the File History records it, is it also deleting the video when I delete it? My File History file is currently 190GB on a 1TB external HDD, and while this doesnโt sound like much compared to 1TB it is taking up a lot of space that I would like to free up since I only have 312GB free on the HDD.
Does File History Append data?

File history saves everything so doesnโt appear to delete anything automatically, you can however manually delete older backups. Hereโs how: http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/de...-file-history/ -

One way to prevent this behavior is to change the recycle bin setting for your external drive.
[ol]
[li]Right click your recycle bin desktop icon (with your external drive connected) and select properties from the menu.[/li]
[li]Highlight the external dive, shown here as โG driveโ[/li][li]The click โDonโt move files to the recycle bin. Remove files immediately when deletedโ[/li][/ol]

BTW, the 20 odd thousand files now showing when you click the desktop recycle bin icon are not written to your internal drive, so thereโs no real issue. Recycle bins can save your bacon at times..Comment

Okay, I did that Gus, thanks for the information. I also went and emptied the recycling bin on my external drive, along with restoring some files from it, it took a couple of hours for me to go through all of them, and there were some files in there that iโm not sure why I deleted them. But thanks guys for the help.Comment
