As Ive stated when I right click on properties to go to the security tab to try to do that there is no security tab. So if Im doing something wrong feel free to walk me through the correct steps so I can attempt that lol Win10 seems to be more finiky than win 8 which I had zero problems with lol

Taking ownership has nothing to do with the security tab.

Try running this reg file. It’ll add a context menu to your right-click menu.

After doing so, right click the folder you want to delete, click Take Ownership, let it process and try again.

tried that 10 mins before making this thread. It doesnt work (or at least it doesnt fix my problem)

nope with how slowly my pc starts (and boots) I prefer not to do that unless I 100% HAVE too. plus if it does work in safe mode (which even im 95% sure it will) that doesnt really fix the problem of making it work in normal mode as it should

If you’re not willing to try out our recommendations, then unfortunately there’s nothing we can do for you.

Booting into Safe Mode and ensuring it works will help narrow down the list of causes. If it works, it means a software is causing these issues. If not, it means a permission error. And a reboot can cure ailments, and sometimes a folder can say “Unable to delete” but in reality is gone but is still stuck in the Data Stream. A reboot will fix this.

If your computer is slow like you’re saying, it needs to be checked out by me or another member of our Security Team for possible malware. It may be malware causing this issue too.

Just tried deleting files of external in safe mode and still didnt work.

Then that means that it is a permission error. Please do the following:

Please download MiniToolBox and save it to your desktop. Run the program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator. When the program opens select the following boxes:

List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Have you tried doing it from within a LINUX Live USB?

Try YUMI .
Just download the Linux version you prefer, and use YUMI to make a bootable USB.
This method has worked many times for me in the past, at home and here at work.

This method has worked many times for me in the past, at home and here at work.

Im confused did you just recommend I use a Linux related program on Windows as well as use a program that makes bootable USBs to see if I can delete a file off a usb external hdd with it? If so then that would definitely require walking me through it.

Sorry for the delay, I was at work.

Yes, I suggested using YUMI (is a Windows application).

You run the program, and you follow the prompts (or the sequence of pictures I post):

[li]I selected Linux Mint, and clicked on Visit the Linux Mint Home Page (You can select any version you like, I just like Mint Cinnamon).[/li][li]After the download is finished, click on Browse, and select the ISO file you have downloaded.[/li][li]Ignore the Persistence File you will not need it, and click on Create.[/li][li]This will take around 10 minutes.[/li][li]When asked if you want to add more ISOs select No.[/li][li]Reboot your system and press the appropriate button to select Boot Device, then select the USB stick you have just created.[/li][li]When you reach the Linux Mint Desktop, connect the USB disk.[/li][li]It will take maybe a few seconds to appear on your Desktop.[/li][li]Click on the icon to open it, and see if you can delete the files in question.[/li][/ul]

Ok before I do that. A few question. My external is already FAT32 so I guess it wont have to format the drive to FAT32 but wont changing the multiboot and or the MBR delete data thats already on the disk (just like a format would). thus deleteing the files in question along with everything else on the drive which would make everything moot?

If it doesnt delete anything but I am able to delete the files in question while using Linux. Then how does that help my inability to do so in Windows? That seems l =ike more of a workaround than a solution or a fix, I mean Id have to restart my PC and boot into Linux every time I wanted to delete something from the eternal drive then restart back to WIndows when I was ready to actually use said drive?
