Hi eveyone,hope someone can help me out here… Ive got an Acer E1-571 laptop running win10 … every thing was ok tiill las t week..powered down one night… next day came to power up and all i got was power light on,battery light on and the HDD flashed once and the fan was working there in background but nothing else … no screen ..nothing.. .Ive tried every reset going(hard etc) nothing happens … cant get it into safe mode ,theres no reponse from keyboard.. ive reseated the HDD,the memory card and even the wifi card too…ive looked into the screen with a torch and even tried another monitor..nothing.i then tried reinstalling the bios but again nothing.i was adviced the the HDD needed replacing so i did just that and yeh u guessed still wouldn’t boot.As a last effort i went and got another motherboard hoping this would sort it out but alas nothing again.. had some great advice on here before so ive signed up again hoping someone knows the answer to my probs .. thank you in advance.. regards..Peter

Do you get anything at all on the screen such as an Acer logo or does the screen stay black from the moment you press the power button.
Does the notebook normally give out a single beep when it passes the power on self test (POST)
I would only have contemplated doing that if you were getting a boot failure message on the screen, any way that you can return the new HDD.Originally posted by Peter Firth -
Hi and ty… sorry not reinstalling bios but udating… downloaded from acer support page onto flashdrive… into usb port,held down fn,esc and start button altogether etc.. but no joy… and yeh np bout the return of HDD… no nothing on screen and no beep either…regards…Comment

No problem but reinstalling something would normally suggest that the computer was functional in some way.
AS you get noting whatsoever on the screen and based on what you have done already is suggests that the CPU is bad I`m afraid, I asked about the beep because one of the tests that we often do is remove the RAM and power up to see if any error beeps are given out.Originally posted by Peter FirthComment

well i managed to obtain another CPU,reassembled the laptop yet again and… nothing!!!.. still the same… power and battery lights on.. HDD light flashes once.. can hear the fan operating.. and a black screen… really dont know what it an be now… got me flummoxed…help!!!Comment

Summarising all of what you have tried and post here, you have replaced the MB, tried an external screen, replaced the HDD and now tried another CPU, this only leaves the RAM and the notebooks power supply as not being checked/swapped.Originally posted by Peter Firth
When you tried the external screen did you use the Fn and the F5 keys pressed down at the same time to toggle between the two screens.
Were the replacement MB and CPU both guaranteed to be in 100% working order _ can you post links to examples of the MB and CPU purchased.Comment

To add to the questions already asked.
You replaced the CPU did you add the correct amount of thermal compound?
Have you checked to see if there are any broken or missing pins on the CPU?Comment

Hi again.. on the screen question yeh i did toggle fn+f5 to try get the screen working… as for the MB & CPU they came together complete with fan etc and was 100% tried and tested… and Rustys.. the CPU looked ok to me and yeh the thermal paste i put on was pretty much ok to me(not to much, not to little)hope all this helps…regards & tyComment

Did you remove the RAM and listen for any beeps like philpower mentioned? When there’s a hardware fault, in either RAM, CPU, or hard drive, most computer manufacturers have a computer speaker built onto the motherboard that will put out a sequence of beeps and the number of beeps will tell you what’s wrong. Did you hear any beeps at all? If you have no display, it’s quite likely the display itself is gone since you’ve replaced everything else short of testing the RAM.Comment

Hi … no noise or beeps at all when removing either ram ,CPU or HDD… the only sound is the fan operating and power & battery lights illuminated…ty guysComment

The black screen throughout is a real concern as it suggests serious hardware failure and that you may have been real unlucky with the replacement components.Comment

hi guys.. good news… having earlier noticed Jmarkets comments on having the ram tested i did exactly that.As it was the only thing i hadnt really touched i thought why not.Well the ram was well and truly buggered… obtained new ram,rebuilt laptop and booted up and everything was there … certainly surprised me(wish i’d done this first) but a big ty to all you guys who took time out to help me out here… PeterComment
