Machine keeps freezing, random times, for years!

    Hello all,

I have got a custom PC which I have been interchanging parts for a good couple of years, possibly 7-8 years, but I’m not too sure if this makes a difference, I don’t know my original spec but here is my spec as of now.

OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Home
    Version 10.0.14393 Build 14393
System Manufacturer Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
    System Type x64-based PC
    Processor AMD FXβ„’-6300 Six-Core Processor, 3500 Mhz, 3 Core(s), 6 Logical Processor(s)

    SMBIOS Version 2.7
    Embedded Controller Version 255.255

BaseBoard Manufacturer Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
    Secure Boot State Unsupported
    PCR7 Configuration Binding Not Possible

Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = β€œ10.0.14393.206”
    Time Zone GMT Standard Time
    Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB ( 2x HyperX Savage 4GB 1866Mhz DDR3 CL9 DIMM XMP)
    Total Physical Memory 7.96 GB
    Available Physical Memory 4.92 GB
    Total Virtual Memory 16.0 GB
    Available Virtual Memory 12.5 GB
    Page File Space 8.00 GB
    Page File E:\pagefile.sys
Hyper-V - VM Monitor Mode Extensions Yes
Hyper-V - Second Level Address Translation Extensions Yes
Hyper-V - Virtualization Enabled in Firmware Yes
Hyper-V - Data Execution Protection Yes

Video Card: Asus (AMD) R7 250X
    Bus standard: PCIe 3.0
    Video Memory: GDDR5 2GB
    Engine Clock: 1020MHz
    Memory Clock: 4600MHz (1150MHz GDDR5)
    RAMDAC: 400MHz
    Memory Interface: 128 bit
Power Consumption: 150W1, 6 pin PCIe Required.

SSD for MAIN system: SanDisk 128GB SATA III 2.5 Inch SSD
HDD for OTHER usage (games etc) (E:/): Toshiba MK5075GSX 500GB 5400RPM (Status: CAUTION, on Crystal Disk Info, Re-located sector count = 100)

Power Supply: 2nd hand, 850 Watt Corsair, 80+ Bronze rating Power Supply, I actually need about 450W but got this from a friend, it makes a loud high pitched noise when I switch the PSU off from the switch after the PC is off.

The HDD I have had for a long time, I think I have used it in a laptop once, I have a DVD/DVD-RW that has been with me since I bought a PC at PC World, It has been with me for over 5 years.

So what happens to my PC?

Well, at random times, it will freeze, but not crash, never, it will slowly go into a frozen state.. so for instance, like now, listening to music, on Google chrome opening and closing tabs, surfing.. opening different windows Applications, at any time it will stop responding to movement, such as scrolling up and down a page, then after a while it will not allow me to click anything, click to open anything, then after a while music will stop playing then after a minute or so it wil go back to normal, everything will catch up, things will scroll down and music will start playing again… what the heck is going on here?

I have posted this question a few years ago, might have been this forum but no one knows what is going on, but now I need to know because it is getting very annoying! do I need to rebuild an entire new PC with Intel Infrastructure? it is an AMD thing that happens to everyone? or could it be my PSU?

My friend keeps thinking it might be the CPU or RAM, the memory locations getting muddled up then things catching up with themselves after a while? idk.. I have tried everything in the years that this has been happening.. what is going on here?, examples being, de-fragmenting, re-installing windows, cleaning out stuff, multiple anti virus scans from different sources (malwarebytes, norton, etc.) etc etc etc… but still nothing, it keeps happening..

    Can anyone help me?

    Hi Chris and welcome.
I see a complete weakness in your Rig. That being the R7 250X
Only pulls a benchmark of 2280, which is not good at all.

I have done a few things since I posted this, namely I have updated Windows 10 to 14393.xx from the 2015 build, I have uninstalled a few things, unplugged my own DVD drive and I have since not had any issues, so I think I may have resolved this myself haha.. but it may come back!

            thanks for all your replies.
