I bought a new battery for my HP Compaq Presario CQ57 because the battery needed replacing. I plugged it in and hovered over the battery icon and it says: Plugged in, not charging. I have Windows 10 OS with anniversary update. Microsoft Composite Battery is also not listed in Device Manager. I checked for a BIOS update for the laptop and there was one; however, its for Windows 7. This update has to do with my problem about the battery not charging. Should I install the BIOS update even thought the laptop now has Windows 10. It was bought Windows 7 64-bit in 2012. I bought a 9 cell battery on Amazon. Itβs not an HP, but it is compatible with the laptop. Can you please help me fix this problem. I have tried uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI compliant control method battery and rebooting. I have also tried disabling it and the Microsoft AC Adapter and that still didnβt help. I also tried the steps to rermove battery, reboot, plug in ac adatper, etc. I saw these on the internet. I am at a loss. Please help.
Thank you
Fay
P.S. Would an overheating laptop cause the battery not to charge?
