Ubuntu on USB drive

I’m trying to install Ubuntu onto a USB so that I can use it on my HP Stream laptop as the operating system. I went to this website for the installation: Universal USB Installer – Best Bootable USB Software (UUI) .

I installed “something” on the USB, not sure if I installed the right thing. At first I got an error message saying, “UUI couldn’t find a configuration file. Ubuntu cannot be installed using this option.”

But then something was installed. I have these files on the USB: uui, license, Uni-USB-Installer-Copying, and Uni-USB-Installer-Readme. Am I missing something? If not, how do I use these files?

Also is there a version of Ubuntu that works for Macs? Thanks for any reply.

Have you tried YUMI ?

I always use this for my Linux USB sticks, is user friendly and up to now has never failed me.

also check out Puppy Linux and Linux Mint - I heard a lot of people of the years talk about these.
personally the last distro I used was ElementaryOS which was the best Linux one I’ve ever had, rated it above Ubuntu, which was good I have to admit.

but it sounds like the type of distro isn’t your issue - just getting it onto a bootable USB stick.
so firstly make sure the PC is set to read from USB drives before all others.
and to make a USB bootable drive I use PowerISO but I’m sure there are many others.
