Acer Laptop Partition Issue

I recently accidentally deleted the partition on my laptop which had the OS on it which was Linux Mint 17. I discovered the problem when I restarted my computer and it won’t boot up as it can’t find OS.

Now I have given up hope of rescuing anything on the laptop and tried to install the latest Linux version. It seems to have completed installation successfully but won’t boot up after I take out USB device as instructed. I’m assuming this has something to do with the unpartitioned space where my original OS was housed. I only have access to BIOS menu and can’t figure out how to get laptop working again. I thought it would only be a matter of wiping it and installing new OS but not so.

Any help greatly appreciated. I can provide pics and model name of laptop if that is needed to solved problem.

When you installed Linux did you tell it to wipe the entire drive and install?
You can also use the install USB to wipe the entire drive and the do the install remembering to back up any data (documents, pictures, etc) that you do not wish to use.

I have told it to erase entire hard drive but it still never works. I tried some lighter Linux distros today like Lubuntu but now install won’t finish due to some corruption

We can erase the entire drive manually using a live version of Mint

Boot to the USB drive
From the Menu select Disk
On the left side select the Disk Drive in the system
Select each one of the partitions and select the - (minus) button
NOTE: Make sure the drive is not mounted. Just to the Left if there is a Square then select that to unmount the drive then delete the partition.
Once all the partitions are deleted you will need to reboot and reinstall the Linux operating system and Desktop Environment of your choosing.

No worries you did follow the instructions correctly just the eMMC 32GB drive was not listed there.

Can you access the BIOS on that system?

If so look for something called Legacy is set to active or on and Secure Boot is deactivated or off.

After doing some research there have been several people that have tried doing this and it was not easy.

Other than this I would suggest that you contact Acer vial their forum some have stated there is a BIOS password that you need to get from them.

Thanks for your help. Will check out the link, but at this stage it’s looking like I might have to start shopping for a new laptop from the sounds of things!
