Hi Chuck, Linux Mint has a couple of built in picture viewers, try this.
From the main menu
Choose Graphics on the left hand tree and then βImage Viewerβ from the right.
Once it has opened, Click βImageβ menu and then βOpenβ
Navigate to your USB drive or wherever your pics are.
Select your pic by double clicking on it.
you can maximise the image viewer app window the same as Windows if you want.
Use your mouse scroll key to size your picture.
And use previous or next from the main menu to show the rest of your pics.
There is another inbuilt app called Pix, and there are zillions of other viewers you can install for Linux.
This screenshot from Mint 18 is Image Viewer and the pic is on a USB flash drive.

Have you mounted the USB stick?
Your image shows that the internal storage has nothing in pictures. It would not since they are on a USB stick.Comment

Hi Chuck, the usb does not have to be mounted to use it. Click the COMP⦠item on the left menu and navigate to your usb drive from there. Your pictures will not show on the Pictures item you have highlighted in your screenshot unless you physically copy them from your USB to that folder.
Note, if you hover your mouse over the vertical line section between the βplacesβ and βnameβ boxes you will see a double ended arrow, you can now drag the line to the right and see more of the left hand βplacesβ tree. When you do this you will see the item now shown as Compβ¦ will actually be Computer.Comment
