Be more specific as to what downloads you are doing?
        Pictures, Movies, Programs, Files?

If you are talking about like through the browser then there is the Arrow pointing down on the top left. That you can click on and it will show you a list of the downloaded files.

Then you can also go to the Files folder off the task bar or the Home folder off the desktop. There will be a directory called Downloads.

What type of programs remember that Linux can not run Windows based software. For that you will need a program called WINE.

            You are welcome

This explains various ways to go about downloading and installing more apps. A little dated but still applicable.
