Alongside the standard OnePlus 7, we’re going to be seeing the OnePlus 7 Pro. That’s not just speculation; it’s fact, thanks to the official OnePlus Twitter account, and the company’s CEO too.
OnePlus hasn’t released a ‘pro’ phone before – the closest is the T range, like the OnePlus 6T, but that’s more of a mid-year tech boost between the standard phones than a plus-sized phone in its own right.
We’re expecting to see a full reveal of both the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro at the OnePlus launch event on May 14, but we’ve seen loads of leaks and information drops before that (not least at all from OnePlus itself), so this is what we already know about the upcoming phone.
OnePlus 7 Pro release date and price
The OnePlus 7 Pro is set to launch on May 14 at a OnePlus launch event, and we don’t expect it to take too long to release it after that.
However, we’ve heard the OnePlus 7 could come with 5G connectivity – if that was the case, the phone could come out a lot later in regions that currently have no 5G networks, but we’d expect there to be a 4G handset too.

In terms of price, as there hasn’t been a Pro handset in the OnePlus range before there’s no real precedent for the cost. The OnePlus 6T price started at $549 / £499 / AU$599, and we’d expect the OnePlus 7 Pro to be more than that.
The price of a OnePlus 5G device would be roughly $200 to $300 more than an equivalent non-5G OnePlus phone, according to the company’s CEO, but we don’t know if he was referring to the OnePlus 7 Pro or a future phone, so take that with a pinch of salt.
OnePlus 7 Pro design and display
Multiple leaked renders of the OnePlus 7 Pro show it having an all-body display, not broken up by anything like a front-facing speaker or camera. That means we’re expecting it to have a pop-up camera.
In addition, we’re expecting the screen to be curved around the edges of the device – in this regard we expect it’ll look a lot like the Huawei P30 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus, which both had a similar display.

OnePlus tweeted an animation of the OnePlus 7 Pro showing this ‘unbroken’ design, but it doesn’t exactly give much away since it’s not an actual picture of the handset.
We’ve heard a few different rumors about the screen size, so we’re not totally sure how big it’ll be. The general ballpark estimate is either 6.6 or 6.7 inches, and we’re expecting it’ll have a Quad HD+ resolution.
In terms of colors, we’ve heard the phone will come in Mirror Gray, Nebula Blue and Almond – the first two are pretty self explanatory, especially given we’ve seen them on other OnePlus products, but the last one is presumably some kind of brown color.
OnePlus 7 Pro camera
OnePlus has shown off the OnePlus 7 Pro camera quite a bit, so we’ve got a good idea of what to expect.
Different groups have used the camera for photoshoots – a Wired tested out the 3x zoom, and OnePlus partnered with National Geographic for a shoot, so it’s clear the company is keen to present the phone as a photographic powerhouse.

We know the OnePlus 7 Pro will have three rear cameras, which rumors suggest will consist of a 48MP main snapper, a 16MP sensor with a wide-angle lens, and an 8MP shooter with a telephoto lens.
This latter shooter would be used for the 3x lossless zoom mentioned above.
On the front, we’ve heard the selfie-cam will be 16MP, although we’re unsure if this will also be a wide-angle lens like some other selfie cams or not.
The big news is that judging by the unbroken screen, this’ll likely be a pop-up camera that rises when you need it, an idea that OnePlus has teased on social media but not actually confirmed.
OnePlus 7 Pro spec and features
Since most high-end phones now run on the Snapdragon 855 chipset, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this in the OnePlus 7 Pro, and every spec leak we’ve seen has backed up this assumption.
There have been various rumors on the amount of RAM the handset will come with, but as with many smartphones it’ll likely launch with a range of options.
We’d expect 4GB RAM to be a little low since the leaks and rumors paint a picture of a high-end phone, so it’ll likely start at 6GB for an affordable version of the phone and range up to 8GB, or even 12GB.

We’ve heard rumors that the OnePlus 7 Pro will have a quick refresh rate, at 90Hz, as opposed to 60Hz on most phones. This’ll make the handset feel smoother to scroll or play games, so the OnePlus 7 Pro could be a great gaming handset.
The CEO of OnePlus, Pete Lau, told The Verge that the screen on the new phone would be “super-smooth and very crisp”. Although that hints at this same 90Hz feature, he didn’t confirm it.
With regards to the battery, we’ve heard a range of figures, from a rather small 3,700mAh to a sizeable 4,150mAh. We’ve heard 4,000mAh multiple times, so for now that’s looking most likely.
According to information from SlashLeaks, the OnePlus 7 non-Pro version will have a larger battery at 4,150mAh but we’ll wait for the official launch of both phones to know for sure.
