    AOL Desktop "Gold"

Thought you guys would get a kick out of a letter I received today from AOL. They want to charge $3.99 per month for their desktop version while their AOL.com remains free. Yep, I know that I am one of the last 25 people using AOL but old habits die hard.

    Dear davejeter13,

I’m writing to tell you about some upcoming changes to your AOL Desktop software.

Over the years, AOL has provided an unparalleled online experience—mail, instant messaging, browsing, content and more—at no cost to you. Our team has worked to provide you with advanced technology that is fun and easy to use.

Today, marks the release of our newest AOL Desktop software—AOL Desktop Gold. With enhanced security features and automatic updates, this version is better, more secure, and has the same look and functionality you know and love. Unlike past versions, it will require a small monthly fee.
Additionally, to maintain a high level of security, all older versions of AOL Desktop software will be discontinued in 30 days. Access to your current version will be discontinued at that time.

We’ve made the transition to AOL Desktop Gold easy—all your usernames, passwords, toolbar icons and mail will be transferred along with your favorites and contacts. Plus, we’d like to offer you a 30-day free trial* to enjoy AOL Desktop Gold.

Get started with AOL Desktop Gold now. We know you’re going to love it.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give our team a call at 1-888-265-3733.

Thank you for being a valued member.

    Sincerely,

    Brendan Jennings
    Senior Vice President, AOL Membership

Just think Dave, after you’ve been on that plan for 3 months you might upgrade to the more expensive Platinum version, and then the Ultimate version at a later time:cautious:
